Features of BlackBerry KEYone Retro Smartphone

The BlackBerry KEYone brings back the classic physical keyboard. Although its hardware is older by today’s standards, it remains an interesting choice for collectors and fans.

Display and Design

The BlackBerry KEYone features a 4.5-inch IPS LCD with a sharp 1080 × 1620 resolution. Its 3:2 aspect ratio gives the screen a different shape than that of modern widescreen phones. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protects the display, while the aluminum frame adds a solid feel. Notably, the four-row physical QWERTY keyboard makes typing emails, notes, and messages feel different from using an ordinary touchscreen.

Performance and Software

The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, paired with an Adreno 506 GPU. It handles basic tasks such as calls, messaging, and light browsing, but it cannot match modern smartphones in demanding apps or games. The KEYone originally launched with Android 7.1 Nougat and supports an upgrade to Android 8.1 Oreo. Since it is an older device, some apps may no longer be supported on it. Check app compatibility before buying it for everyday use.

RAM and Storage

The BlackBerry KEYone comes in 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage options, depending on the model. It also supports microSDXC cards for extra storage, although the card uses the shared SIM slot. However, its limited memory may restrict heavy multitasking.

Camera Features

The KEYone has a 12MP rear camera with phase-detection autofocus, dual-LED dual-tone flash, HDR, and panorama modes. It can record 4K video at 30 fps. On the front, an 8MP camera supports 1080p video recording at 30fps. These cameras can handle basic photos and video calls, but don’t expect image quality to match that of current mid-range or flagship phones.

Battery and Charging

A 3,500mAh non-removable battery powers the BlackBerry KEYone. It supports 18W wired charging through Quick Charge 3.0. The phone can reach around 50% charge in 36 minutes under the stated charging conditions. Battery health matters when buying a device from 2017, particularly if it has been stored for years. Ask about the battery condition before purchasing a used or collector’s unit.

Connectivity and Other Features

The KEYone includes dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC, an FM radio, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB Type-C 3.1 with OTG support. A front-mounted fingerprint sensor adds convenient security. Network support varies by model, so check the exact version if you need specific LTE bands or dual-SIM functionality.
