Key Features of BlackBerry Priv

The BlackBerry Priv stands out with a feature that most modern smartphones have left behind. But there is more to this classic device than its unique design.

Design and Build

The Priv brings back the charm of physical-keyboard smartphones. Slide the display upward, and a four-row QWERTY keyboard appears for comfortable typing. You can use it to write emails, reply to messages, and take notes with physical keys. However, this plastic-built phone weighs 192g and measures 9.4mm thick.

Display

This phone features a 5.4-inch curved AMOLED display with a sharp 1440 × 2560 resolution and approximately 540 ppi pixel density. It delivers detailed text, clear images, and rich colors. The curved edges also give the phone a distinctive appearance. Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protects the screen against everyday scratches.

Performance and Software

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 chipset powers the BlackBerry Priv, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It can handle basic tasks and light browsing. You can also expand storage with a dedicated microSDXC card slot. However, its aging hardware and outdated software may limit its suitability for demanding apps and modern games.

Camera

Surprisingly, the BlackBerry Priv includes

• An 18MP rear camera with OIS
• Phase-detection autofocus, and
• Schneider-Kreuznach optics

These features help reduce blur caused by hand movement and improve focus. It also supports 4K video recording at 30 fps and 1080p video recording at 60 fps. The 2MP front camera is basic by today’s standards.

Battery and Charging

A 3,410mAh non-removable battery powers the device. It supports 18W fast wired charging through Quick Charge 2.0. Selected market versions also support Qi wireless charging.

Connectivity and Audio

The BlackBerry Priv supports 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, GLONASS, and NFC. It also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack. This lets you connect compatible wired headphones without an adapter. Its MicroUSB 2.0 port supports SlimPort video output including 4K output with compatible equipment. However, it lacks a built-in FM radio.
